Fix-a-Form honoured with International Business Award recognition

April, 2009

According to studies by Michigan State University, warning labels on drug packaging can frequently be misleading and often ineffective. The study examined the effectiveness of two required warnings on over-the-counter medications, focusing specifically on their ‘relative prominence and conspicuousness’ i.e. how well they were featured on the packaging.

Researchers found that the brand and product claims were significantly more legible than the warning statements and that people spent significantly less time looking at the tamper evident and child resistant warning. They went on to state “Finding effective ways to get people to read and heed warnings on over-the-counter drugs is critical to their safety and well-being as well as those around them - especially children.”

The findings of this study echoes the messages that the Fix-a-Form International Network has been pushing for many years now. The 2005 Pharmaceutical Survey supports the fact that end-users would be more inclined to read and repeat-refer to information if it were attached securely to the product.
